Smell of Lilacs

Finally Spring has arrived in Northern Illinois where I live.  I can smell lilacs thru the open screen door. Iris are bobbing their delicate petals on long stems in the wind.  It was a really long Winter here and the arrival of Spring flowers has been most welcomed.

My flower beds have been tended.  I thought all my beds were in good shape.   A walk around the yard this morning revealed WEEDS!  Yikes, were did they come from?  I weeded just the other day.  Pesky things are really tenacious.  Guess I did not get to the root!  Big sigh!  For a moment I lost sight of the beauty of the budding green leaves and the majesty of color and bloom.  All I could see was those pesky weeds!

Sometimes our thoughts and beliefs systems are like the weeds in my flower beds.  You think you have explored and cleared a fear or limiting belief and all is well.  You relax and find the freedom to enjoy life.  Then all of a sudden that fear is back!  What happened?

Is it really the SAME fear or just a different version?  Did you recognize it sooner this time?  How it is serving you? What is it trying to communicate to you?   Can you look at it with a different perspective and gain even greater insights?

We are emotional beings.  Our fears can not hurt us.  They just hold us back. Or they can offer us insights an opportunities for healing and learning.  Sometimes, they are our internal warning system and trying to protect us.

Spiritual practices can help us keep our connection to our soul and life purpose fertile.  When the fears/weeds pop up we can easily address them once we become aware of them. Awareness is the key here. Like me, walking around the flower beds.

We need appreciation as well.  It can be easy to focus on the negative and all the things going wrong!  All those darn weeds!  With gratitude we can find the joy and beauty in life even when things are messy/weedy.

It is not always easy to focus on gratitude.  At the end of each day I reflect and find something to appreciate about my day.  Perhaps it was a text from a friend.  Or a kind gesture by a stranger.  Maybe, it was time to walk around and visit my flowers.   Gratitude makes a difference and helps me to look for the good in life.
